Lecture description

Process temperatures up to 1,850 °C subject high-temperature furnace linings to extreme thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses. This article deals with the manufacture and processing of vacuum-formed high-temperature insulation based on polycrystalline mullite/alumina wool (PCW) and its areas of application. In addition, the key factors influencing the performance and service life of furnace linings are explained. Damage such as cracking, spalling and discolouration, which affect process stability and energy consumption, and how to prevent them are also discussed.
